Dreigiau Hud (Magic Dragons)

Magic Dragons/ Dreigiau Hud

The Magic Dragons meet twice each week. Six children from Foundation Phase meet Mrs. Routledge and Mrs. Wall to play and learn together in our own room. Each session we do a special surprise activity as well as lots of free choice play. We are learning to listen and talk to each other. We enjoy cooking and we always share a healthy snack together. We set the table and later tidy up.

We like puzzles, games and making things. We are learning to take turns and share. We use our own camera and learn pad to record our fun! Sometimes we play outside and go on treasure hunts in the local environment. We welcome visitors  to stay and play.

Our favourite times are relaxing to music and listening to a story.

Amser Snac:

Healthy snack time is important in our sessions.

We all help take turns to set the table and clear away. We enjoy fruit, crackers, cheese and sometimes make our own cakes. We grew our own cress and made egg and cress sandwiches. We ate porridge when we read the Three Bears story. We always drink healthy water or milk. We have table rules and always remember to say please and thank you.

We are learning to play with adults helping us in the Magic Dragons room. We are learning to take turns in our small group. One child is a Helpwr Heddiw and rings the tambourine for amser tacluswch and amser snac. It helps us if we know we all have a turn at everything fairly.

Caring for our world

We enjoy planting things and caring for them on our gardening table. Plants need compost, water and sunlight to grow. This year we have planted daffodil bulbs, tulips, peace plants, cress and petunias. We look after them and water them each week. Outside in May we planted runner beans, lettuce, onions but at half term the slugs and snails had a feast and ate our plants!!

We are closely watching our daffodils now-we hope they will be out for St David's Day!

Art and craft

This is one of our favourite activities. We enjoy painting, printing, and making things. We keep all our work in our own folders and will take it home at the end of term-unless it is on display!

We used old Pringles tubes to make a pencil pot. We looked at postcards from Henri Matisse and copied his ideas for printing on fabric and for cut-out collages.

Here we are printing and painting leaves after an Autumn walk.

SEAL in Magic Dragons

We think about social and emotional aspects of learning in our Silver SEAL sessions.

We can set our own targets in 'Going for Goals' and we feel good about ourselves in 'Good to be me'.

This term we are thinking about how to meet our targets. We know in Gabalfa Primary School there are always adults who can help us to become independent learners. Our targets are on our 'Going for Goals' display to help us remember them!

We also put up our group Charter because we are a Rights Respecting School and we know the UN says we all have a right to things like a good education. Come and see what we think are the most important rights!

Our puppet friends Jasper and Mimi help us do good looking, good listening and good sitting. This helps us learn.

If you think this all looks fun, come and visit our Magic Dragons room and look around!

We often invite visitors in and families can come to our 'Stay and Play' mornings. It is good to have an extra pair of hands when we are cooking or gardening!
